Frequently Asked Questions

◉ Do you work with women of all ages?

◎ Yes! From girls in high school to ladies in their 80's and everything in between. We all go through life transitions, challenges, new and daunting phases, loss and hurts, relationship and friendship issues and I am here to support you through whatever brings you to counselling.

◉ Do I need a referral?

◎ No! Anyone at any time can seek a counsellor without needing a referral from a GP or a mental health care plan. You don't have to have a mental health diagnoses or be connected with any other services, you can book online today.

◉ Do you work with men?

◎ Currently Dark Wood Counselling is specifically a service for women. I am happy to offer referrals for male clients if you need support finding the right counsellor for you.

◉ Do you accept mental health care plans?

◎ Unfortunately not. Currently these plans are only eligible with a psychologist or mental health social worker. However, depending on your level of support needed, you may find counselling a valuable addition to this. Another consideration is the out of pocket expense after a Medicare rebate with a psychologist or accredited social worker will be similar to a counselling session full priced fee.

◉ What if I don't like my counsellor?

◎ Unfortunately this can happen, sometimes you might just not gel. But often it might be something small that can be resolved if you are willing to raise it with the counsellor. Don't worry we won't be offended. Or we can always help you find someone who may be a better fit!

◉ Can I use my private health cover?

◎ At this stage I do not accept private health rebates but as soon as this changes I will update you!

◉ What's the cancellation policy and why?

◎ We have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment you will be charged 50% of the session fee. Why? If there is little to no notice given we are unable to fill this appointment in such a short time.
